Fish Tank

The kids, Imran especially, had been begging and bugging us for pets. Judging from our previous experience, having cats was out of the question. So we bought them fish. They were absolutely elated. They helped me choose the fish, tank and decorated it with their favorite toys. Even the sea witch (from Little Mermaid), tick tock crocodile (from Peter Pan) and Dory (from Nemo) ended up in the tank. They even named the fish with some funny, rhymy names. I feel having pets is a great way to teach kids a sense of responsibility. They have been very good in feeding the fish and cleaning the filter. So far, the mortality rate is not bad. Only two fishes died. One of them, a sucker fish, actually mysteriously disappeared from the tank. We suspected that the gold fish as the culprit!

Rustic Chicken & Leek Pie

I made these for dinner tonight. The kids loved them. They are very good at making me feel appreciated, telling me i'm 'the best mommy', 'the best chef'... they really know how to bodek. Imran asked why the pastry didn't cover the pies properly and suggested that I should watch more cooking shows! I told him I purposely did that because it was supposed to be rustic, farmhouse style pies. He said, 'ok mom you can do what you want'. The truth is I was lazy - I used frozen square shaped filo pastry. Never mind the look, the taste is great.

Dial 1 300 for emergency food

Have to send the kids to Quran lesson soon. Nothing to cook in the fridge plus I don't feel like cooking. Problem solved with some cash and phone in hand. The kids 100% approved it. Even got a hug from my daughter telling me 'you are the best mommy!'.  Kids are so easy to bribe. Modern-day mom!

Domestic Goddess

I'm on leave today altho still doing work while watching telly. Nigella Lawson, the domestic goddess, is on. I love cooking shows (although I haven't been able to practice my cooking skills as much lately). I quite like her recipes as they are supposedly quite doable to be made by any busy mothers. I  like the kitchen set in one of her programs (the one with christmassy lights and full-height book case which I intend to replicate in my home. Apparently, I read that the house was not hers). On her presentation, well what can I say. I think I prefer her in her older shows. She was genuinely teaching people how to cook then. Now  her programs look more and more like a food porn, not to mention that the cameras were trying very hard not to focus on her growing tum and tush. Sometimes, I feel she looks increasingly similar to Russell Brand. Ewww...

KitchenAid Mixer

A Kitchenaid mixer is a must-have for those inspired to be domestic goddess. For me, not that I will be using it often it would be a fantastic decor on my kitchen counter. White will be the colour.  If only it was more affordable. It's about RM2800!!. sigh...
